Description |
Life zones and habitat: Plains and foothills (4000 to 6600 ft); dry, rocky soils in short-grass prairie plains and sandstone outcrops. Plant: Short perennial up to 5 inches tall with spreading stems with silky hairs. Leaves: Ternately-compound obovate to oblanceolate leaflets 0.2 to 0.6 inches long; surfaces densely silky-pubescent. Inflorescence: Densely hairy ovoid to cylindrical spikes at stem tips, 0.6 to 3.1 inches long with small, yellow, pea-like flowers 0.4 to 0.8-inch long, fading to orange, purplish or brown.
