Description Life zones and habitat: Foothills and montane alpine (6800 to 10000 ft.); dry, open hillsides and sagebrush flats.
Plant: Erect semi-parasitic perennial 6 to 22 inches tall, several to many erect or ascending stems, sparsely hairy, rarely smooth.
Leaves: Linear to narrowly lanceolate or narrowly oblong blades, 1 to 2 inches long, with 2 deep lateral lobes; greyish-green to purple.
Inflorescence: Hairy, greenish yellow bracts divided into 3 to 5 long, narrow lobes surrounding and mostly hiding the corolla; narrow yellow corolla tubes about one inch long.
