Description Life zones and habitat: Foothills to alpine (5400 to 10000 ft); moist or dry areas in meadows, aspen and conifer forests.
Plant: Erect perennial 6 to 24 inches high with slender, angular stems.
Leaves: Opposite, linear to linear-lanceolate or broadly lanceolate, sessile, gland-dotted and lightly pubescent; 3/4 to 4 inches long.
Inflorescence: Single white flowers ~3/4-inch across with 5 petals deeply cleft giving the appearance of more petals; obvious linear veins on the petals; white filaments and purple to pink anthers; somewaht hairy, gland-dotted sepals.
Bloom Period: May to July.
