Description Life zones and habitat: Foothills to alpine (6000 to 13000 ft.); shady, moist areas in forests and along stream banks, willow thickets.
Plant: Annual 3 to 20 inches tall; slender, leafy stem.
Leaves: Opposite, elliptic to ovate or becoming lanceolate above, sessile, and 3/8 to 2-3/8 inches long.
Inflorescence: Clusters of few to many very small tubular flowers clustered in compound cymes, each blossom opening to about 1/4-inch across, with a pink to lavender 5-lobed corolla and fringe surrounding the center.
Bloom Period: July to September.
