Description | Life zones and habitat: Plains and foohills (4500 to 8000 ft.); dry rocky soils on hillsides, in open wood and canyon bottoms. Plant: Unarmed shrub 2 to 6 ft. tall; slender multiple branches; bark is grayish-whitish, peeling. Leaves: Dark green; hairy above, silvery below deeply pinnately-lobed, 3 to 7 linear segments 1/4 to 1/2-inch long. Inflorescence: Saucer-shaped flowers with 5 large white petals up to 1 inch long; five smaller sepals; many yellowish stamens and pistils. Bloom Period: May to September.
