Description Life zones and habitat: Foothills to alpine; open, sunny areas, prairies, gravelly slopes, tundra.
Plant: Erect perennial 2 to 6 inches tall, shorter at high altitudes, fleshy, leafy stem.
Leaves: Smooth, fleshy, lanceolate and alternate, up to 3/4-inch long.
Inflorescence: Clusters of yellow flowers, 5 lance-shaped petals, 10 protruding stamens, 5 green pistils and 5 pointed sepals.
