Description Life zones and habitat: Montane to subalpine; open areas, meadows.
Plant: Erect perennial 1 to 3 feet tall; one to few stems.
Leaves: Basal and stem leaves pinnately compound, fern-like.
Inflorescence: Yellow blossoms in dense raceme (spike) several inches long; each blossom with two lips, the upper arched or hooded and the lower, smaller lip with three lobes. Leaf-like bracts project from among the flowers.
