Description Montane and subalpine life zones, open woods, aspen groves, meadows; erect, tall perennial up to 4 feet tall; oblong pointed stem leaves up to 12 inches long, with 3 to 5 veins; large composite, nodding flower heads up to 4 inches across with many yellow ray florets (petals) and disk florets; bracts beneanath the blossom pointed and bristly.
