Description Life zones and habitat: Montane and subalpine. Moist, open woodlands, streambanks.
Plant: Perennial with erect to arching stems 12 to 36 inches tall.
Leaves: Five to 12 stem leaves 2 to 8 inches long, alternate, somewhat clasping, stalkless, or short-stalked; oblong-elliptic to ovate shape.
Inflorescence: Panicle of small flowers 2 to 5 inches long, each flower less than 1/3-inch across with 6 white tepals and 6 stamens longer/wider than tepals.

Plant: Erect perennial up to 2 feet tall (usually less), single leafy stem.
Leaves: Stem leaves up to 6 inches long, alternate, somewhat clasping, stalkless, lanceolate, often folded.
Inflorescence: Clusters of small flowers 3/4 to 2 inches long, each flower about 1/3-inch across with 6 white tepals and 6 stamens.
