Description Life zones and habitat: Subalpine and alpine. Moist locations along stream banks, meadows, near ponds.
Plant: Short perennial, 2 to 6 inches tall, growing in clumps.
Leaves: Narrow, lanceolate, opposite leaves up to 3 inches long.
Inflorescence: Barrel-shaped flowers up to 2 inches long with 5 pointed lobes, white with purple spots and streaks.
