Description Life zones and habitat: Foothills to alpine. Sunny moist areas in meadows, grassy slopes, roadsides.
Plant: Stout, erect biennial/perennial to 6 feet tall, unbranched stem.
Leaves: Basal rosette of pale green oblanceolate leaves 6 to 18 inches long, reducing to whorled and opposite bracts upward.
Inflorescence: Many flowers along stem with 4 broad, pointed petals, white to greenish, often with dark dots; 4 slender light green narrow, pointed sepals.
