Description Life zones and habitat: Foothills and montane; open and disturbed areas.
Plant: Erect, branched annual, up to two feet tall.
Leaves: Narrow lanceolate leaves, upwardly turning, about one inch or more long with smooth edges.
Inflorescence: Green flowers densely clustered in spikes up to 3 inches long on branches from main stem; no petals or sepals but stamens and stigma are visible.

Description Life zones and habitat: Plains to subalpine; open and disturbed areas. Widely distributed.
Plant: Erect annual, a few inches to over 3 feet tall, stems, leaves and flowers covered with white powdery substance. Photographed plant is less than 10 inches tall.
Leaves: Lower triangular leaves (shaped like a goose foot) 1/2-inch to 5 inches long, smaller and narrower upper leaves ovate to lanceolate and alternate.
Inflorescence: Green flowers densely clustered in spikes 2 to 6 inches tall, no petals or sepals but stamens and stigma are visible.
