Description Life zones and habitat: Montane to alpine; slopes and open areas, spruce forests.
Plant: Deciduous shrub to 2 feet tall, spreading, spiny branches.
Leaves: Deeply cleft into toothed, sticky, hairy lobes with spines at the leaf/stem apex; on petioles 1/4 to 1-1/2 inches long.
Inflorecence: Hanging racemes of 3 to 8 pink to coral, bell-shaped, bristly blossoms with 5 flared petals and yellow stamens.
Fruit: Red-orange, round, bristly berries.
