Description Life zones and habitat: Foothills to alpine; moists areas along streams and in meadows.
Plant: Slender, erect perennial 10 to 14 inches tall with multiple, hairy stems.
Leaves: Basal leaves on petioles up to 4 inches long, twice-ternately-divided blades into linear or lanceolate segments; stem leaves sessile, fewer, smaller, less divided; upper leaf surfaces smooth, hairy beneath.
Inflorescence: Flowers 3/4-inch across with up to 9 petal-like hairy white, pale yellow, purple or pink sepals (no petals), 80 greenish-yellow stamens; oval seed heads 5/8-inch long.
