Description Life zones and habitat: Montane to alpine. Wet areas, along streams, moist meadows and bogs.
Plant: Slender erect or leaning stem up to 18 inches tall, usually much shorter at elevation.
Leaves: Basal rosette, spatulate, up to 6 inches long, fleshy with long stalks; stem leaves opposite and smaller.
Inflorence: Clusters of star-shaped deep blue/purple, 5 petals with 5 narrow, pointed sepals between; 5 prominent protruding stamens.
