Description Life zones and habitat: Foothills to subalpine; meadows, clearings, roadsides.
Plant: Biennial 1 to 5 feet tall; stout, hairy, fleshy stem.
Leaves: Alternate, fleshy, narrow lanceolate leaves up to 6 inches long, hairy beneath; lower leaves stalked, upper leaves sessile.
Inflorescence: Clusters of small cup-shaped blossoms about 1/4-inch across, each with five pale blue lobes around a narrow central tube.
