Description Life zones and habitat: Foothills; dry, open areas, gravelly washes and slopes, sandy short-grass plains.
Plant: Sub-shrub, up to 2 feet tall; much-branched and tangled, grayish, smooth and almost leafless stems.
Leaves: Deeply-lobed linear-lanceolate, runcinate leaves; basal leaves 1-1/4 to 2-3/4 inches long and wither before blooming; fewer and much smaller stem leaves.
Inflorescence: Few pink composite flowers about 3/4-inch across with 5 to 7 rays, toothed tips and as many purple stamens.
Bloom Period: May to September.
