Description |
Life zones and habitat: Alpine; tundra and rocky locations. Plant: Very short, erect perennial 3/8 to 2-3/4 inches tall, single stems or clumps. Leaves: Basal linear-lanceolate to narrowly oblanceolate leaves 3/4 to 2 inches long, fleshy, smooth. Inflorescence: One or two deep pink flowers 1/2 to 3/4 inch across with yellow centers and 5 notched petals. Bloom Period: July and August. Description |
Life zones and habitat: Subalpine and alpine; moist areas along streams, in meadows and around boulders. Plant: Erect perennial with stout, leafless stems 6 to 20 inches tall. Leaves: Basal leaves broadly oblanceolate to elliptic leaves up to 13+ inches long, fleshy, smooth, smelly. Inflorescence: Umbel of 3 to 20 flowers, each 1/2 to 1 inch across, on arching pedicels up to 4 inches long with 5 notched deep pink petals and yellow centers. Bloom Period: July and August. Life zones and habitat: Foothills to subalpine; meadows, aspen and spruce forests. Plant: Erect perennial with slender, leafless stems 4 to 26 inches tall. Leaves: Upright basal leaves in a rosette, broadly oblanceolate to elliptic up to 14 inches long. Inflorescence: Umbel of 2 to 15 downward-pointing bright pink/magenta flowers on arching pedicels; each about 1-1/2 inches long, with reflexed (bent-back) petals exposing a yellow-to-purplish tube of fused stamens forming a downward pointing beak.
