Description Life zones and habitat: Foothills to alpine (7600 to 13000 ft.); meadows and open areas, dry or moist soils.
Plant: Erect perennial 4 to 16 inches tall.
Leaves: Basal leaves pinnately-divided into whorled groups of 5 hairy, gray-green lanceolate leaflets, each about 1/2-inch long.
Inflorescence: Bluish-purple flowers atop long, leafless, hairy, erect stems, well above the leaves, each about 1/2- inch long.
Bloom Period: June to August.
